About the School
Gilson National School, Oldcastle has a unique and well-documented history dating back to the early 19th century. The school originates from the Gilson Endowed School, founded through the generosity of Laurence Gilson, a native of Oldcastle, who left a large sum of money in 1810 to provide education for local children. In 1976, these schools were amalgamated, and a new co-educational Gilson National School was built in 1977, which continues to serve the community today.
Sacramental Preperation
The school works closely with Oldcastle & Moylagh Parish in preparing children for the sacraments. Further details are available on the parish Sacraments page.
